What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese Relaxation technique that promotes healing; using energy and prayer. There is no pain nor is it invasive. It is considered similar to massage and or acupuncture, but without the use of needles. By relaxing the body and taking it out of the flight or fight response; this energy, with the combination of prayer allows the body to access its natural healing capabilities.

How is Reiki administered?

The participant lies on a massage table fully clothed and the Reiki practitioner then begins the session by saying a quiet prayer and asking God for guidance. The Reiki practitioner administers the Reiki Energy to the client through hand placements on the body.  If you are sensitive to touch or are uncomfortable with hands being placed on your body, the hands can hover over the area instead for the same experience.

What is Reiki Energy and where does it come from?

This is a very valid and common question. While Reiki isn't associated with any religious belief; I being a Christian, believe that Reiki is God’s energy. Reiki is simply soaking in the Holy Spirit and allowing him to work through your body, mind and spirit. Rei-ki literally translates to universally guided energy.

I am a believer in Christ, am I able to get Reiki?

I get this question a lot and the answer is, absolutely! In Christian terms, Reiki is simply soaking in the Holy Spirit. The Reiki therapist says a quiet prayer and connects to the Holy Spirit then follows the lead of the Holy spirit about how to position their hands and where. It is a quiet experience and a feeling of being immersed in bliss with a deep connection with God. The confusion comes into play because in Japan, the Holy Spirit is referred to as life force energy. Did you know that there is no Hebrew word for "soul", it was called life force energy and later translated to mean soul for the English audience? "Rei-Ki" translated is defined as a Spiritually Guided Life force energy.

What if I am not a Christian or I am not sure where I stand about God? Yet I am still looking for a connection.

You don't have to identify as Christian or even have a clear understanding of what God is for you and your life. That is something we can discuss in private at your session; if you choose. We all come from different places and have experienced life differently. This is one of the reasons I choose to specialize in spiritual abuse. Often times we hear of physical, mental, or emotional abuse. However, when our perception of God is presented to us by an abuser, it creates limiting and false beliefs. For many it is difficult to serve a God we have been told to fear, or have been shamed because we are unsure of the word of God. Reiki is a beautiful, loving energy that does not harm or alter. You can be who you are and benefit from Reiki. Remember, even if you are not spiritual; you are more than a physical body, you have a spirit. We can work on growing and connecting to that.

What is Spiritual Abuse?

Any attempt to exert power and control over someone using religion, faith, or beliefs can be defined as spiritual abuse. Spiritual abuse can happen within a religious organization or a personal relationship. Spiritual abuse is not limited to one religion, denomination or group of people.

Signs include but are not limited to:

  • Using scripture or beliefs to humiliate or embarrass you

  • Coerced you into giving money or other resources that you didn’t want to give

  • Forcing you to be intimate or have sex that you didn’t want to have

An abusive partner who is using spiritual abuse might:

  • Shame, make fun of, or ridicule your religious beliefs or practices

  • Prevent you from practicing in your religion in the way you would like

  • Using your beliefs to manipulate or bully you

  • Demanding that your children be raised with or without a certain religion

  • Use religious texts or beliefs to justify other kinds of abuse (physical, sexual, financial, etc.)

You may be experiencing spiritual abuse if your religious leadership or intimate partner is using scriptures or religious beliefs to control your:

  • Clothing

  • Sexuality

  • Decision making

  • Choice to have or not have children

  • Made you feel pressured or obligated to do things against your will
